Are Reservations Required?
Adults? No (but appreciated).
Families with children? Strongly encouraged, we have a limited number of children’s bikes. When making your reservation, please be sure to make a note of your children's ages or call to be certain of the availability of children's bike.
Larger groups (8+)? Recommended

We operate 7 days a week, rain or shine. Simply pick a day and time that works well for your schedule and hop on a bike tour. Reservations can be made via this website. If you decide to not make a reservation, you may pay with cash or credit card on the day of the tour. If you have children that will need smaller bikes, we strongly recommend reservations due to limited numbers of children's bikes. If you are a larger party, we would definitely recommend a reservation. In the very rare event of too many walk-up guests, we will always cater to our reservations before those that have not paid in advance. This is very seldom, but again, reservations, though not required, are always encouraged.

Do we go inside the museums and monuments?
Unfortunately we cannot enter the monuments due to time constraints on the Day and Night Bike Tour. Besides, there’s always some people that want 10 minutes in the Smithsonians and others that want 3 hours. Our tours are designed to enjoy the city from a broad perspective so that’s what we’re going to do!

Are Capital City Bike Tours appropriate for children?
Absolutely! We have tons of families as we’re a great family activity.
We offer 4 options for children depending on their age, size, and riding ability:
For children under 18 months of age or 20kg (45lbs), we have baby seats that can be attached to the back of a bike.
For children children weighing up to 30kg (65lbs), we have trailers that can be left open or zipped up to fully enclose the passenger.
For children up to 12 years old or 45kg (100lbs), we have 2 wheeled tandem trailers. The passenger sits on a seat and can pedal or coast. All riders over 45kg (100lbs) must ride their own bicycle. We have various smaller sized mountain bikes for those able to ride on their own, and of course, our regular beach cruisers for children big enough to ride them.
Unfortunately, we do not have any adult tricycles or bikes with training wheels for adults that may be less confident in their riding ability.
If possible, please let us know if you would like one of our tandems, trailers, baby seats, or child bikes (info@capitalcitybiketours.com) in advance that you’d like to reserve either a child seat or trailer. When making a reservation, please be certain to note the ages of all children in the party to be sure there are enough properly sized bikes. Please Note: All child bikes use hand brakes. There are no pedal breaks available.

What Makes Capital City Bike Tours Different?
First, for our tours, we keep it simple. One tour will bring you from the Capitol, to the Lincoln Memorial and everything in between. No need to pay for two separate tours to see half and half, or to force yourself to see just one side of the Mall. Also, if you are looking to decide between a bike-share or renting a bike with Capital City Bike Tours. Consider that the bike shares are designed for commuters. You need to pay both a membership and usage fees designed for short uses. Our bike rentals are priced so you rent for an entire day without breaking the bank. We also give you a lock so you lock your bike nearly anywhere without having to look for a bike share booth. Overall, Capital City Bike Tours wants to make sure you get the most value out of your bike rental or tour without breaking the bank.
Do I have to wear a helmet?
Your safety is top priority for us and studies have shown that helmets can reduce head injuries by at least 85%. Therefore, we do require all riders to wear helmets on our tours. Bike renters may opt not to wear helmets, only if they are over 18, but are asked to sign a waiver saying they have been recommended to wear a helmet at all times. Again, this option is only available for those who are not taking the tour, but are renting the bikes without a guide on an hourly/daily basis.
Awesome
The idea of walking three kids (12, 10, 7) around DC on a muggy day had me really worried. Then, I stumbled upon Capital City Bike Tours!
We all had a great time biking around the city and seeing all the sights. Our guide, John, was knowlegeable and personable and also took good care of us throughout the tour. We had plenty of time to see all the major sights and we all finished the tour happy but not exhausted.
I would recommend this to anyone looking to get a great introduction to DC, especially families!
